Support your body, calm your mind, connect with your breath.
Our Sacramento studio is a healing, tranquil place for you to call home. You are welcome here!
Contemplative Practice Yoga®(CPY) is an integrative, restorative practice done on soft blankets. The practice is suited to all people but is especially beneficial for those needing extra care and support during significant health challenges. We specialize in and exclusively teach therapeutic practices to regulate your nervous system; build resilience; and help you feel great in your body.
Our clients say it best:
“CPY is slow and gentle. Even if I am having a hard day on chemo, I can come to class and feel better. After class I have less pain and am deeply rested and restored. It gives me energy to have a normal life.” -Clara L., Multiple Myeloma
My experience of Contemplative Practice Yoga has been extremely helpful and positive. Anna-Marie provides a safe space for quiet mind and movement to help clear the cobwebs. As a cancer patient, I am in recovery in so many ways that I often can’t sufficiently verbalize my needs. Yet this practice allows me to dissolve of some of the trauma and my body relaxes. In fact, my (Whoop wearable) biometric device captures a reduction in stress level during the sessions. All of this adds up to restoration. So much is depleted during treatments, but this practice reconnects the vital functions of mind and body. – Maurice H. Multiple Myeloma
As a caregiver of a cancer patient, your cortisol levels can often be through the roof from constant stress and worry. Everyone tells you to “take care of yourself” but no one really tells you how. One tool in your toolbox should be Contemplative Practice Yoga. Practicing CPY slows you down. There is no forcing or straining. Your body takes a well-deserved exhale. I usually end up crying (so don’t be surprised if that happens to you) from the release, but I leave lighter and more equipped to take on whatever comes next. – Lisa R.
We are proud to partner with Dignity Health, Mercy San Juan and Blood Cancer United to support patients as they work though the health challenges associated with a cancer diagnosis.
If you have a cancer diagnosis you have probably noticed there are many resources but very few physical activities for the body that can help you feel better. Contemplative Practice Yoga® (CPY) is a gentle practice that supports your body, calms your mind and connects you with your breath.
When living with cancer, there may be physical limitations, lasting side effects, or vulnerabilities that arise from surgery. In a short period of time the body may change in strength, immunity and function. Because we are highly trained in therapeutic protocols, we know how to keep you safe and comfortable.
Contemplative Practice Yoga® is not gym yoga. It is not a workout. It is a unique therapeutic practice with a myriad of benefits including:
- AWARENESS: Learn to cultivate awareness of your body in new ways.
- RELIEVE SPINAL COMPRESSION: Our practice releases tension throughout the body. This practice is even suitable for those on chemo or those who have lasting effects from chemo/ radiation. The practice impacts the vagus nerve, calming the vasovagal response.
- ANXIETY: Our practice helps create calm and regulates your nervous system. It reduces anxiety and shifts the central nervous system (CNS) from fight or flight into rest and digest.
- SLEEP: Decreases insomnia. Students report more restful and longer sleep.
- PAIN: Students with nagging physical pain experience relief.
- NOURISHES AND SUPPORTS: CPY Is a breath centered practice that oxygenates, detoxifies the body and lowers blood pressure.
- IMPROVE FATIGUE: The restorative nature of the practice helps combat fatigue.
When you come to our studio you get: a clean, quiet environment, small classes, personal attention, and skilled teaching.

“I am in my 70’s and have lymphoma. I was close to giving up when I decided to give Contemplative Practice Yoga® a try. I had no idea that this practice would be transformative on so many levels. What struck me most about Anna Marie is her passion for CPY and her genuine compassion and caring towards me. I was initially skeptical that the poses she taught me would bring any relief whatsoever because the practice seems so simple and easy.
CPY is about releasing the tension, the root of my pain, from deep within my body. Anna-Marie and I work together in private yoga therapy sessions, and I attend group CPY classes.
I have been working with Anna-Marie for six months. As I continue CPY, the tension I’ve held in my body for decades is dissolving or diminishing. Many of the physical maladies I experience have just about gone away. My severe and debilitating pain has been reduced by at least 50%, and on some days I am actually pain-free.” –Kathy P., Lymphoma
